And the winners is… Get to know Caspar Lee’s BFF, YouTuber Josh Pieters! WIN a copy of ‘The Sims 4’ and the ‘City Living’ expansion pack

MP! knows how to spot a rising star when we see one and Josh Pieters is on our radar…

The 23 year old South African has long been involved in the YouTuber community, being one of Caspar Lee’s oldest friends and living with fellow YouTuber Jack Maynard (Conor Maynard’s brother). But he only started his own channel, which you can check out here, in November 2015.

He is currently celebrating his one year anniversary on YouTube this month, having gained more than 600,000 followers in a very short space of time.

Josh just teamed up with EA Games for the release of ‘The Sims 4 City Living’ expansion pack and filmed a special new vlog about him exploring London. Keep reading to watch the video.

This guy is about to go stratospheric, so we thought it was time to get to know more about Josh Pieters…

Hey Josh. For those who don’t know you yet, could you give us a brief intro to Josh Pieters?

Hey! I’ve had my YouTube channel for just over a year and I strive to make stuff that is as original and daring as possible and then try to give a comedic twist to it.

How did you first get into YouTube?

Caspar Lee and I grew up together and he started his channel six years ago now. If you look back in the archives you’ll see me in his videos. I helped out with filming and learned how to edit from watching him. I was always involved in it and I was quite clued up on the social media world.

A couple of years ago I was in London playing cricket and I used to help out Caspar as a second job. While I was there I got sick with glandular fever so I couldn’t compete the rest of the season. I had nothing to do so people told me to start my own YouTube channel. I had an idea for a video and I was lucky enough to have friends who helped me out loads and I loved it. Here we are a year later. I can’t believe how much has happened in a year.

So it’s thanks to glandular fever you have your YouTube channel now?

Yeah, I remember when I was in Charing Cross hospital and the. nurse came over and told me you’ve got glandular fever so you can’t play sports. It’s not the worst thing in the world of course but at that time I burst into tears because cricket was my life. It just shows that you never know what’s going to happen. Something terrible can lead to something amazing.

Our fave video of yours is when you tried to go 60 hours without any sleep. We felt your pain. How did you even manage to recover?

Yeah when I came up with the idea I knew it was going to be sick, but it wasn’t the funnest to do. After I did it I fell asleep at 7:30am in the morning and then Jack woke me up. I filmed that outro and then went back to sleep from 10am until 4pm. I could have slept longer but I was like that is not good for my sleeping patterns and then went to sleep against like 10:30. After like 2-3 days I was back to normal.

We’d never be the same again.

I know and I’m a person who really does love sleep. It wasn’t easy.

Whats the worst prank you have pulled on another YouTuber?

I did a prank on Jack Maynard. We always forget to lock our front door so one day I took all our electronics to make it look like we’d been robbed. Jack was about to cry haha.

Haha do you ever feel mean pulling pranks?

Yeah you feel so bad, especially if it’s a public stuff. Thats the worst because people have no idea whats going on.  You’re cringing inside.

But you don’t feel bad enough to stop?

Yeah as long as you’re not affecting anyone too negatively and they’re your friend I think its fine.

Which other YouTuber who you haven’t met yet do you think you’d really get on with and why?

I think I’d really get on with PewDiePie because he seems like a cool guy and I could see myself playing games with him. Even though he’s the biggest YouTuber he seems the most down to earth.

You’ve teamed up with EA Games for the launch of ‘The Sims City Life’ expansion pack. What are your impressions of the game and what’s the thing you most enjoy about it?

It looks sweet. It’s a new game so everything is enhanced and looks very pretty. My favourite part is that you can play in a big city and, living in London, I can relate to that.

How did the partnership come about?

Obviously the new game is about being in the city. I had my friend Jake here who is from South Africa and he’d never been to London before. So I had the the idea to start a blog to take him around London to show him all the sights and that tied into the new ‘Sims’ game.

Do you think robots will eventually run the earth and if so what would you do to keep on their good side?

I think they already do run the earth!

I would just have to be as perfectly behaved as possible to stay on their good side. They don’t have much tolerance of our foolish human ways.

Who would play the role of you in a film of your life?

When I’m older,  Stephen Merchant from ‘Top Gear’. He looks quite similar to me.

He’s a cool dude. What’s the best way for a fan to get noticed by you on social media?

Do something cool and take a photo of it. I think spamming isn’t advised. A drawing would be cool.

Which Disney animated character do you have the most in common with?

It’s gotta be ratatouille, doesn’t it. He’s a dude.
