After a few years away from the music scene, chanteuse Jordin Sparks has taken things one step a time (previous single reference!) and unveiled new song ‘Skipping A Beat’ to some pretty darn excited fans. The question is has she got that certain sparkle or has she lost that magic touch?
With a stream of R&B-pop beats and strings emerging out of nowhere, Jordin seems more than ready to return to her former role as the sweet good girl of the pop scene, the American Idol alumn’s vocals extremely on-point here.
It’s a pleasant if pretty throwaway jam with some lightweight and sweet lyrics, the whole thing coming across as a fun, saccharine album track on Jordin’s no doubt soon-arriving next album and while it’s certainly okay enough for summer, it’s not an anthem in the making.
It’s a shame she didn’t enlist the help of boyfriend heartthrob Jason DeRulo to make this song a bit punchier. We love Jordin but love her best when she’s killing it atop a dancefloor jam that commands everyone in the vicinity to strut their stuff.
