Forget boring theatres… we went to see ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ in a park and it was amazing

Who knew that summer could change your theatre game. Forget the stuffy cramped West End venues and say hello to park theatre. The sun was shining, the air was breezy and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’was life changing.

We got the chance to go see this hit musical down at Regents Park Open Air Theatre, which is only open during the summer because yanno, the UK rains a lot.

‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ is a rock opera with lyrics and music written by musical gods Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It originally started on Broadway and the West End in the 1970s and was super controversial with religious groups.

It tells the story of Jesus’ final days, including the iconic Last Supper and betrayal of Judas. Former boyband member Declan Bennett stars as Jesus. A unique thing about this play is that the show is ‘sung through’ with zero talking, it’s told all in song!

Not to mention, the songs are catchy AF. The title track ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ will get you on your feet dancing and the ballad ‘I Don’t Know How To Love Him’ will surely make you shed a tear.

The show finishes late August, so if you plan on going it’s best to snap up some tickets now. You can get them from here and if you do go along, snap a pic and send it to us @maximumpop on Twitter!
