BST Hyde Park Style Diary: We chat to Jerry Williams about breaking all the rules

Who the hell is Jerry Williams? Meet the indie pop singer-songwriter whose unique style stole our hearts at last weekend’s BST Hyde Park festival.

Aside from a fresh youthful sound which is like a blessing to our ears (think retro Taylor Swift), Jerry’s striking outfit is what really caught our attention.

We sat down for a chat, along with our photographer Tom Leishman, to get to know Jerry better and capture her quirky sense of style.

Hi Jerry! So you’re literally breaking all the rules of fashion with a zebra top, striped trousers and green shoes.

Hello! Haha usually I mix pieces that can be quite smart with something more casual. I like standing out and wearing bright colours, things that clash y’know?

You little rebel, we like you. What inspires your quirky style?

I love people like Alexa Chung and Whinnie Williams – I think they’re amazing.

Where can our readers get an outfit like yours?

I found this top in the sale at Topshop the other day, so I thought I’d treat myself to it. The trousers are from a vintage shop in Portsmouth, but I had to have them altered to fit me – I think they’re from the child’s section!

And those are  Dr. Martens and Ray-Bans right?

See we know a thing or two about fashion. If you could only ever wear one item for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ooh I don’t know. I’d love to wear my Dr. Martens everyday, I think it’s going to have to be a pair of them.

They are seriously cool. With such an out-there wardrobe, have you ever had a fashion disaster before you’re about to go on stage?

I’ve been quite lucky. I was worried these trousers were going to split but thankfully they didn’t! I did have a pair of tights once which went all weird because the rain got on them. That was pretty bad.

Oops! Finally, how would you sum up your style in three words?

Fun, quirky and – ahh I don’t know – youthful.

Thanks for chatting with us Jerry! Check out her new music video ‘Mother‘ and follow her on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
