‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicii covered by Jay Tyrer: Cover Corner

Welcome to Cover Corner, where we pick our favourite covers (and we’re not talking about bed sheets) from YouTube and share them with you.

This weeks Cover Corner is a 19 year old from Lincoln with a big set of pipes called Jay Tyrer. He’s been posting YouTube videos since the age of 14 and even taught himself how to play the guitar. He has gathered 8,661 subscribers (at this current moment in time) and once you hear one of his covers, it won’t be too hard to understand why.

We chose ‘Wake Me Up’ for this Cover Corner because Jay gives it a fresh lease of life with his take on the track. He filmed a video for it in his back garden (or maybe it’s a friends’ garden?) and his microphone magically switched from mic to guitar. Jay’s shows off some pretty awesome vocals with a slight hint of country that works perfectly with Avicii and Aloe Blacc’s number 1 hit.

This Cover Corner was chosen by MP! reader @agathasian. If you have any suggestions for a future Cover Corner suggest it on Twitter by mentioning @maximumpop and using #MPCoverCorner.
