The follow-up to James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ might be finally happening in four whole instalments

We may not have seen much on the ‘Avatar’ front since its release in 2009, but that doesn’t mean James Cameron doesn’t have more up his sleeve. After watching it, we definitely had high expectations for a sequel, but then… it never came. As one of the highest grossing films of all time, it seemed as if there was definitely an opportunity being missed. The wait might just be over, though, because apparently we’re finally getting a sequel — and then some.

For James Cameron, two sequels just isn’t enough for all the material that’s been racking up in that ingenious head of his, so now we’ll be getting four more packed films! Eventually, anyway.

The long anticipated second film is set to be released in 2018, whilst the other three will be out in 2020, 2022 and 2023. It probably doesn’t bear thinking about just yet, but we’re intrigued to see where the story takes us, especially after that cliffhanger of an ending. What do you think, though? Excited for four more ‘Avatar’ films or does it feel a bit like overkill? Let us know your thoughts @maximumpop!
