Want to get into music producing? We talk to iLL BLU about just that and what emoji they would design.

If you have been loving the track ‘Lonely People’ featuring James Morrison which was released earlier this year, then you may be familiar with the name ‘iLL BLU’. Former rapper Dary and producer Jreel are a duo from London who have worked with the likes of Cheryl, Sam Smith and Jessie J. We got the chance to catch up with them and to get to know the pair a bit better.

Hi guys! For those who don’t know you, could you tell us a bit about yourself and your sound?

We are a production duo from North West London, we make electronic house beats. We started in 2008 and got signed last year. We’ve been releasing some EPs and we’ve just released a single with James Morrison.

That’s pretty cool! Could you explain to us what that single is about?

The song, ‘Lonely People’ is about being alone and basically looking for love and everyone has been in the same boat, you know, looking for love.

You have remixed artists such as Cheryl, Jessie J and Sam Smith – what artists would you love to see yourselves working with some day?

We’d love to work with artists with unique tones, unique voices so like Florence from Florence and the Machine, The Weeknd… there’s loads of artists. Anyone with a unique voice really.

If you could have released any song in the world, what would it be?

This is a hard one. So many good ones. Gonna have to say Dennis Ferrer’s ‘Reach 4 Freedom’ because that’s the song that inspired us to create house music and it’s such a classic.

What kind of music is currently on your playlist to listen to?

We’ve got some Exposure, a new track by KDA which features Tinie Tempah and Katy B which is called ‘Rumble’ and we listen to The Weeknd’s new album.

If you could design your own emoji, what would it look like?

It would have a blue face and will probably have a face scrunched up – you know the face you make when you hear a really sick beat? That.

That needs to be in the next app update! What advice do you have for people who want to get into the same industry as you?

Perfect your craft. It’s about not what you know, but who you know. Be consistent. Keep working, keep making music, collaborate with other people. That’s how you learn. The more you do those things the more likely you’ll be to become successful.

If you didn’t have your current career – what would you like to see yourself doing?

To be a billionare! *laughs* own loads of companies. That would be a dream! Realistically,  probably be doing something with music, maybe teaching it.

If you were that billionaire, what kind of company would you like to own?

A company making a load of money, without having to do much work. It would probably be linked to music some way. Maybe a musical app or a game. Music has to be linked into it. Not exactly sure what, but music would definitely be involved.

What can we expect from you in the next year?

We’re currently working on a few collaboration projects, one with a duo called Jack and Danny and a few we can’t name just yet and a few new singles.

Thanks guys! Let’s chat again soon.
