It’s time for another installment of our series on how to start a book blog! This time we’re looking at what to write about on your brand new blog.

We spoke a lot about reviews last week when discussing what to do with proof copies – they’re an essential part of a book blog. But they don’t have to be straight forward reviews. You can also try:

  • List reviews
  • Discussions
  • A picture-based review
  • Mini-reviews
  • Lists of recommendations

Try out whatever you think suits the book and/or your feelings about it. Just remember to be honest and fair.

Discussion Posts

Discussion posts are just as broad an area as they sound! They can be anything you fancy. Want to show off your collection of foreign editions? Noticed a trend in YA you want to talk about? Recently become obsessed with an author/series/genre?

The best advice we can give you is to just go for it! It’s always good to exercise your writing muscle.

Here are a few fab discussion posts we’ve spotted around the blogosphere recently:

Book Hauls

Book hauls are a topic of intense discussion in the book world, but we love them. It may be months until you get around the reading the books you’ve been sent, but popping it in a book haul means that you’ve at least shown it off!

It’s also a seriously fun way to check out what books are coming out over the next few months and see what everyone is reading. (We’re total suckers for a book tube book haul – we could watch them for hours!)

books are a thrill

But what about blog tours you cry? Author interviews? Guest posts? Keep your eyes peeled – we’ve got whole posts dedicated to those things coming up!
