The Best Part about Booktube, Finding the Community, and Being Yourself Online: a Q&A with booktuber gracewithabookinherface

Recently we got the chance to put a few questions to booktuber Grace (of gracewithabookinherface) and find out ALL the answers to what life is like on YouTube, how she got started, and why she thinks everybody in the book community brings something fun and unique to the table!

What first attracted you to booktube and made you begin posting your own videos? I first discovered booktube when I was looking up book related hashtags on Instagram, and there were a lot of picture of Sasha Alsberg. I was like, “who the heck is this girl?!” I went onto her Instagram and from there to her youtube channel which of course is all about books. After that, I found many other awesome booktubers and different types of bookish content. About a year after watching other peoples videos, I decided to start my own channel. I was extremely nervous at first, but I’m so glad I did it because it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

How long have you been an active member of the community? I started my channel in August of 2014!

What equipment do you use to film your videos? I use my Canon Rebel t4i to film, and a 60-inch tripod that I bought from I try to film in the day with natural lighting, however I have school and work which makes that difficult. When I film at night I use the Neewer Table Top Photography Lighting Kit from

For anyone unfamiliar, can you describe your channel and content in only one sentence? My booktube channel is where I post monthly reading wrap ups, book hauls, book reviews, bookish tag videos, and really anything book related!

Booktube has become a massive online influencer in its own right, growing and growing each day. What sets your channel apart from the mass? The booktube community is definitely growing! I think the great thing about booktube is the many different personalities we have on the platform. Every booktuber is widely unique. We all express ourselves differently and have differing opinions on books, which allows us to view things from various perspectives. So I believe that we all set ourselves apart from every channel by just being ourselves.

‘Series I Won’t Finish!!!’ is one of your most popular videos. Can you tell us what went into making it and what it’s reception from your viewers was like? I wanted to make a ‘Series I Won’t Finish Video’ when I was looking at my bookshelf, and realized a lot of the books there were part of series I had no interest in continuing on with. Initially I was a bit apprehensive about posting it due to the fact that I knew a lot of the series I wasn’t going to finish we’re probably other people’s favourite series. However, the feedback I got from that video was extremely positive. Even when people disagreed, they were respectable about it. That’s the BEST part about booktube, everyone is very kind and open minded.

Thanks so much to Grace for chatting to us! If you’re interested in her videos you can watch them here, or tweet your own questions to her @grayseareads.
