Meet the Korean girlband whose debut album has sold even more than Little Mix’s ‘Get Weird’

Thought Fifth Harmony and Little Mix were the only popular girlbands on the block? Think again, because Girls’ Generation aka SNSD have been around much longer and outsold Little Mix with their debut Japanese album.

Girls’ Generation are a K-Pop group who have been around since 2007 and in 2011 ventured into the world of J-Pop with their Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’. It went to number 1 on the Japanese Albums Oricon chart and Billboard’s Japanese Top Albums. It even got certified by the RIAJ for selling over 1 million copies and they’re the first non-Japanese group to hit 1M, how insane is that! It’s more than our British babes Little Mix, who sold 754,000+ copies of ‘Get Weird’

‘Girls’ Generation’ is also the “the highest selling album and the highest annually ranked album achieved so far by a Korean group in Oricon history”. NBD.

They’ve actually also hit the Billboard 200 chart with one of their EPs, ‘Mr.Mr’. It sold over 3,000 copies which is majorly amazing for a Korean group entering typically western territory.

If you’re tempted to dip your toe into K-Pop, you can always start with SNSD’s English single ‘The Boys’ to start you off. Tweet us @maximumpop with your thoughts on them, we think they’re great!
