Fresh off her star turn as a Britain’s Got Talent finalist, teenage singer-songwriter Gabz has gone and released her original song ‘Lighters (The One)’ which featured in the competition as a proper single. But is it a proper single that we reckon will become a summer smash, or will it crash and burn quicker than Wiley’s chances of doing Glastonbury in the future?
We’ve got to admit that the song, while not wholly original, is still pretty darn listenable and has some really fantastic lyrics and writing that makes us think of Jessie J, Kate Nash and even a young Cher Lloyd as she combines a hell of a hook with some acerbic and witty words. Production-wise, it’s nothing much more than a piano and backing vocals, but it’s an improvement from the largely acoustic BGT performances.
‘Lighters (The One)’ is not a fantastic game-changer of a tune but it’ll happily satisfy all Gabz’s fans who wanted the tune for themselves following Britain’s Got Talent – and will hopefully set the stage for a proper first new single from this amazing new singer. Bring on the festivals!
