She’s blowing our minds: Eve talks ‘Barbershop’, working with Nicki Minaj and touring with Gwen Stefani

If you’re not familiar with E-V-E yet, where the hell have you been?

Rapper, actress, songwriter, singer, fashion designer; Eve can do it all and she has done it all in her ever-expanding career. Her musical beginnings go back to 1999 when her first hip-hop album ‘Let There Be Eve… Ruff Ryders’ First Lady’ was released. But you’re probably more familiar with her second album ‘Scorpion’ and its huge singles ‘Who’s That Girl’ and ‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’ featuring Gwen Stefani; both released in 2001. Over the years, she’s worked with the likes of Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland and Sean Paul.

Eve has also enjoyed a successful acting career, appearing in movies such as ‘xXx’, ‘Whip It!’ and the highly successful ‘Barbershop’ series where she plays hair stylist Terri Jones. This year, Terri and the whole ‘Barbershop’ gang return for ‘Barbershop: A Fresh Cut,’ so we jumped at the chance to talk to this media powerhouse about movies, music, working alongside Nicki Minaj and perfecting her London accent.

In ‘Barbershop: A Fresh Cut’ you return as Terri Jones. Tell us a little about your character

In ‘Barbershop: A Fresh Cut’, Terri has totally evolved. She’s a mother and wife – but also a celebrity stylist outside of the shop.

Oooh, so Terri’s all fancy now! Your character is a hair stylist but what are your hairdressing skills like in real life?

I’m sorry to say they suck!

That’s a shame, we were going to ask for a quick cut and blow. You’re in the movie alongside Nicki Minaj and so many other amazing actors. What was it like working with Nicki?

It was so much fun working with Nicki, she was really good in the movie.

This is the third film in the series, but we heard you used to have your own TV show! Are you planning to do any more films or TV in the future?

I don’t have any plans at the moment.

You’re now living and based in London; have you managed to nail the accent yet?

Unfortunately not, my London accent is horrible!

We’d love to hear it one day! What would you say is your favourite thing about London?

There are too many things to list! London is such a great city.

What about music? When are we going to hear some new music from you?

I can say that you will definitely hear some new music from me this year…

We’re excited for it. ‘Tambourine’ is still one of our favourite songs to hear on a night out. What song makes you shake your tambourine when you party?

Thank you! At the moment, it’s ‘Panda’ by Desiigner.

Since your name is Eve, what time do you normally go to bed? Are you a night owl or an early bird?

I have always been a night owl.

We heard you’re supporting Gwen Stefani on her upcoming US tour, are you guys still close?

Yes I am very excited. I’m looking forward to catching up with her again.

You’ve collaborated with some incredible artists over the years, is there anyone left you’d like to work with?

There are definitely people I want to still collaborate with for sure! Maybe they’ll be on the new album – watch this space.

Finally, what’s the one thing in life that gives you the most ‘Satisfaction’?

Knowing I have that someone in my life who lets me be me.

Aww! We think that’s the perfect place to say goodbye and to let you all know that ‘Barbershop: A Fresh Cut’ is in cinemas now. Tweet us @maximumpop if you’re planning to see it.
