We’ve all dreamt about the possibility of our favourite popstar being our boyfriend or girlfriend, we’re just waiting for Harry Styles to pick up the phone and give us a call. Eleanor Wood’s ‘My Secret Rockstar Boyfriend’ delves into the realms of Tuesday’s dreams coming true… Sophie from Sophie Reads YA gives her thoughts on the book.
Who is your dream rockstar boyfriend?
I don’t have one, not one I can think of anyway.
Can you tell us the plot of ‘My Secret Rockstar Boyfriend’ in a Tweet please?
“Blogger, Tuesday (yes, that’s her real name), meets rock star idol and has a whirlwind romance. Angst ensues, and her life changes entirely.”
Would the cover make you pick up the book in a shop?
Yes, I love the colours, and the font is really eye catching.
Did you feel like you could relate to Tuesday’s character?
In some ways. When I was 18, I was taking my A Levels, and completely stressing about revision. I didn’t blog then, and am not eclectic and eccentric as Tuesday is.
What was the best bit?
I really enjoyed most of it, but particularly liked the ending. Not to go into too much detail (or spoil anything), but I liked how the fallout was dealt with, and where the characters were at the final page.
Was there anything you didn’t like?
I definitely wasn’t a fan of Seymour – he wasn’t the supportive boyfriend Tuesday deserved. I’m not surprised she and Jackson had the connection they did.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about the book?
I think My Secret Rockstar Boyfriend is a wonderful coming of age, UKYA story. I would definitely recommend it for today’s teenagers, as it’s the perfect mix of real and fantasy, set in a world most British teenagers would understand.
