Huge news from Ed today! His cracker of an album ‘x’ has reached million-selling status in the UK! Our little cupcake is the first artist to achieve this within a calendar year since Emeli Sande, with ‘Our Version of Events’ in 2012.
The 1 million status puts Ed in an elite group of British artists who have also achieved the landmark in the UK over the past few years, including Adele in 2011 with ‘21’ and ‘19’, Take That in 2010 with
‘Progress’ and Susan Boyle in 2009 with ‘I Dreamed a Dream’. Ooo fancy… imagine a party with this ‘elite’ gang – could be interesting…
‘x’ spent eight straight weeks at the top of the Official Albums Chart upon its release on 20th June, and is not only the UK’s fastest-selling and longest-running No.1 artist album of the year, but is also the longest-running No.1 since Adele’s ‘21’- now that’s what you call an achievement.
Ben Cook, President, Atlantic Records UK commented:
“Ed is a phenomenal artist at the top of his game and his album reaching this impressive milestone so quickly only serves to underline that. ‘x’ is Ed at his original and inventive best – we’re absolutely thrilled for him that it joins ‘+’ in the ranks of the million-sellers and are delighted that so many people love it as much as we do.”
Well we certainly do love it and we’re rather happy for Ed – to be honest if ‘x’ didn’t do this well, we’d be questioning why?! Right we’re off to go listen to it on repeat in celebration…anyone care to join?
