Ed Sheeran has a lot of reason to celebrate this evening as his second album ‘X’ has passed two million sales, becoming only the fifth album to do so this decade.
‘X’ passed the two million mark earlier this week, just nine months after it’s initial release. The new honour sees Ed join the likes of Adele, Emeli Sande, Take That and Michael Buble as he becomes the fifth artist to sell two million copies of an album since 2010.
Only eight albums have sold two million copies in less than a year, with ‘X’ achieving it in just thirty eight weeks (THAT’S OVER 52,000 COPIES A WEEK).
The album sold it’s millionth copy after being on sale for twenty three weeks and has spent a non-consecutive twelve weeks at number one.
Ed shared his delight at the news with the Official Charts Company, saying: “So chuffed to hear X has just hit the 2 million mark in the UK! Looking forward to getting back there for my Wembley shows in July and celebrating with you all.”
Well done Ed, we’re very proud of you.
