One Direction’s ‘Drag Me Down’ already debuted at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart. It already smashed the Spotify UK streaming record. Now, Harry, Louis, Niall, and Liam can add another thing to their list of accomplishments—the song is officially the best-selling debut of the year.
According to Billboard, “One Direction blast[ed] in at No. 3 with “Drag Me Down,” marking the Hot 100’s highest debut of 2015 and the boy band’s best sales week of its career.” The song debuted even higher than Maroon 5’s ‘Sugar’ this year and is the best opening since Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off.’
‘Drag Me Down’ is One Direction’s fifth song to debut in the Top 10, after ‘What Makes You Beautiful,’ ‘Live While We’re Young,’ ‘Best Song Ever,’ and ‘Story Of My Life.’
If this song is a hint of what’s to come on their fifth album, due out later this year, then it goes without saying that we’ve got something great in store.
