Disney’s next animated film Moana has a new princess and a new star on the rise

We already can’t wait to see Disney’s next animated film, Moana. They searched the world to cast the title character before selecting Auli’i Cravalho, a 14-year-old native of Hawaii. She’ll be the voice of Moana and work alongside Dwayne Johnson as he voices the demi-god Maui.

The movie will tell the story of Moana, a 16-year-old who’s drawn to the ocean and eager to learn what the world has to offer beyond her native island.

Auli’i says, “I never imagined being in a Disney movie, being Moana—representing my culture in that way.”

The film’s director, John Musker, says, “Auli’i demonstrated a certain fearlessness in her auditions… She has a playful, mischievous wit.” Sounds like a new Disney star in the making!

Join Moana in December 2016 as she sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest.
