We think Demi Lovato is absolutely killing it in the music industry and she’s definitely come a long way since her Disney Channel days. But for some people, that’s all they can refer to.
Speaking to ‘Refinery 29,’ Miss Lovato talked about how people can’t see past her Disney days:
“I’m still underestimated. I still have more things to prove – not just about the things I can do with my voice.”
Surely people can move past the ‘Camp Rock’ and ‘Sonny With A Chance’ eras by now?
It’s been five years since Demi left the Disney Channel and has achieved a hell of a lot since then. In 2012, the ‘Cool For The Summer’ hitmaker became a judge on ‘The X Factor USA’ and has since released three albums after getting through tough times including a visit to rehab.
Demi has also been a contributing editor for ‘Seventeen’ magazine where she wrote about her personal struggles for its female teenage audience. Other credible work from Demi includes being an ambassador for ‘Mean Stinks’ – a campaign focused on eliminating bullying by girls and in 2013, she was cited for her dedication as a mentor to teens and young adults with mental health problems at a National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day hosted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in Washington. Later that year, Lovato announced the creation of the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program, named for her late father, to pay treatment costs for mentally ill patients.
Demi is now set to tour with her old friend, Nick Jonas, later this year and has many projects she is working on for the future.
After everything Demi has achieved in the past five years post-Disney, is it really fair for people to just label her as ‘the kid from ‘Camp Rock”? We definitely see past the old days (though we cherish the memories from our childhood) and think it’s about time people associate her with her amazing talent and current projects as well as her achievements.
