Prepared to be totally creeped out this autumn: Amy Lukavics’ new horrifying novel, ‘Daughters Onto Devils’, is perfect pre-Halloween reading. A house soaked in blood, a girl on the edge of insanity and a land woven with secrets – this isn’t a book you’ll want to miss.
Want to meet the characters before you get started? Check out Amy Lukavics’ amazing casting should ‘Daughters Unto Devils’ ever become a movie (it should, it definitely should), featuring Ansel Elgort, Evan Peters and Emily Alyn Lind from TV show ‘Revenge’.
Who I would cast in a Daughters unto Devils movie:
Amanda Verner: Troian Bellisario
I never used to imagine actors in the roles of my main characters, but once I realized that Troian would play the perfect Amanda Verner, the snowball really got rolling from there. Troian’s raw talent in portraying characters going through mental anguish is spot on for this role.
Emily Verner: Hailee Steinfeld
Above all else, whoever played Emily would need to bring a sense of wisdom, love, and bad-assery to the prairie, while also being able to balance out Amanda. The girls are best friends despite the wicked things that are going on in their lives, and I can really imagine Hailee bringing her A-game to fulfill the massively important role of Emily Verner.
Ma: Carla Gugino
Carla Gugino has proven time and time again that she can handle any extreme degree of emotions in her roles. For Ma Verner, this talent is especially important – the character goes through quite a wide range of emotional transformation in Daughters unto Devils.
Pa: Josh Brolin
When I picture Pa Verner in my head, I see someone who is rugged and capable of being quite gruff. Pa is a man with strong convictions and an even stronger need to take care of his family, and with the addition of a full beard, Brolin would make the perfect pick.
Henry the post boy: Ansel Elgort
I liked Ansel for this role because his initial appearance would suggest he’s innocent and pure of heart, something that first attracted Amanda to the post boy on the mountain where she lives in the beginning of the story. However, when things come to a head for Henry, he proves himself to be quite the opposite of what Amanda initially thought. I know Ansel could pull it off without a hitch.
Zeke: Evan Peters
There are so many things about Zeke that add to his mystery: he’s kind but obviously hiding something, caring but also cautious, maybe even scared. I’ve seen Evan’s acting skills and am confident that he’d fulfill the role of Zeke flawlessly.
Dr. Jacobson: Charles Dance
The well-spoken yet suspicious doctor in the woods would need to have a very specific vibe to him – possibly sinister, yet thoughtful and firm. The idea of Charles Dance in the role just feels perfectly spot-on to me.
Joanna: Emily Alyn Lind
Joanna may be young, but she is fiery, passionate, and often outspoken (especially when it comes to her younger brother, Charles.) I’ve seen Emily Alyn Lind’s horror acting chops in action before, and I know she’d play the role of Joanna beautifully.
Charles: Oaklee Pendergast
Little Charles is so sweet and innocent, you can’t help but love him. Oaklee has the face to match the character, and like Emily Alyn Lind, I know he can act well in horror films, which makes him the perfect candidate for dearest Charles.
