We know we might have mentioned it a few times already, but The Great British Bake Off is almost back on our screens, and we are actually wetting ourselves with excitement (soggy bottom pun intended).
With 12 brand-spanking-new contestants to look forward to, you’re probably going to want to get to know them. And with a pug owner, an Instagrammer and an aerobics addict in the line-up, it looks like the tent is about to get a whole lot more exciting for 2016.
So, who’s who in this year’s tent? To break it down, we made this handy little infographic:
Now you can put a face to their names, we thought we’d treat you to some little secrets about this year’s bakers. We’ll let you decide who your favourites are…
31-year-old Candice owns a pug (which already makes her a worthy winner in our book), and says that PJs are her baking attire of choice.
We’re hoping she’ll sport a onesie in the tent, and inspire Mary to do the same.
20-year-old Michael comes from a Greek-Cypriot family, and loves making Greek pastries with his gran. *swoon*
We have a sneaky feeling that Michael could be this year’s Tamal, but only time will tell.
Since 25-year-old Andrew spends his working day designing jet engines for Rolls-Royce, we have a sneaking suspicion that we may see some feats of engineering this year.
For his next big ambitious bake, he’s designing a baguette concorde. We’ll leave that one with you…
37-year-old Kate grew up on a farm, so she knows a thing or two about using seasonal, home-grown fruit.
This Instagram-savvy 23-year-old uses social media and fashion trends to inspire her bakes. Benjamina’s twin sister (yes, she has a twin sister) is her biggest critic – we think Mr. Hollywood will have a thing or two to say about that.
At 67, Lee is this year’s oldest contestant. Lee loves teaching his family to bake, and recently helped one of his grandchildren to create a cake for his girlfriend. Cake is the way to the heart, after all.
Hairdresser Louise is all about creating elaborate designs, so we have a feeling she’s going to be one to watch. Plus the 46-year-old is from Wales…and we love to hear a Welsh accent in the tent!
Drawing inspiration from Far Eastern cuisine, 28-year old Rav has promised to add a spot of adventure to this year’s proceedings.
If he can beat Nadiya’s fizzy pop creation, we’ll be seriously impressed.
61-year-old Jane has admitted to being up at 5am most days to bake bread…talk about dedication. Fingers crossed she’ll share some of her pearls of wisdom for becoming a morning person this series.
While most of us struggle to put a half-decent beans on toast together at uni, this is where 30-year-old Selasi’s passion for baking flourished. He now loves to spoil his colleagues with cupcakes. If you’re reading this, Selasi, we never turn down baked goods at MP! towers.
66-year-old Val loves to practise a spot of aerobics while waiting for her jam to boil. If you ask us, that sounds like a recipe for a *seriously* entertaining series.
This 26-year-old lives by the saying ‘you must have your cake and eat it’. We hear you Tom, we hear you.
