Despite the fact that it actually had some really strong tracks on it, Cheryl Cole’s last album ended up being a bit of a laughing stock, thanks to uninspired lyrics (who can forget the classic, “You were the tree and I was the apple”?), cheap production and really dodgy vocals – but with her third solo album expected later this year, we decided to do the research and find out if there’s any chance she might turn it all around. The answer? In short, it looks like she’s got a good shot.
Keep reading to find out 5 things you *need* to know about Cheryl Cole’s new album, including who’s masterminding it, when you can expect to hear the first single and what the ex-Girls Aloud star herself thinks of it.
Last we heard, Chezza was putting the finishing touches to the album in the middle of January and that although it’s allegedly coming this year, no official release date has been confirmed – and due to her exit from X Factor, we can’t even use the show’s schedule as a good guide. UPDATE: Cheryl confirmed yesterday that the album is DONE! *sets off party poppers*
Last year, rumours were abound that the lead single was written by Taio Cruz (who she was supposedly dating at the time) and would be unveiled in the first half of 2012 – more recently it sounds as though she could be looking to premiere the track in full on brand new BBC talent show The Voice. With manager Will.i.am stepping as a coach on the programme, we reckon this sounds plausible.
The list of producers that are apparently working on Cheryl’s third album is getting longer every week – so it’s hard to say what type of sound she might be going for. If we’re to believe every rumour then David Guetta, Alex Da Kid and Labrinth have all contributed to the CD, meaning it could be anything from dance to hip-hop! Emeli Sandé collaborator Naughty Boy has masterminded ‘Craziest Things’, which will include lyrics about Cheryl’s attitude to relationships.
Duet fans rejoice because reports suggest that Cheryl has teamed up with Eminem, Nicki Minaj and even pop princess Rihanna for a massive “party anthem”. And Will.i.am reckons he could make a Cheryl and Justin Bieber track happen, claiming that The Biebs has been “asking Usher if he can set something up with her for over a year”.
But what does the ex Girls Aloud star herself think of the album? Sources claim that she feels like she rushed 2010’s Messy Little Raindrops in order to get it released in time – but after taking her time she’s more positive with the new release and believes it’s her best work yet. Bold claims!
Stay tuned to Maximum Pop! because as soon as we know more about the 3rd Cheryl Cole, you’ll be the first to know.
