Can red lipstick hide dark circles? I put the beauty hack to the test

Dark circles are the bane of everyone’s lives. It seems like no matter how much water you drink or sleep you get, they’re just like an uninvited visitor that long outstays their welcome.

Vlogger Deepica Mutyala came up with a handy trick which she believes to be the solution to those pesky dark circles – red lipstick. Er what? Sounds a bit crazy.

The method

  1. Apply orangey-red lipstick with an eyeshadow brush over your dark circles
  2. Apply foundation/concealer etc as usual over it
  3. Admire your complete absence of dark circles

Hmm. Sounds like someone may be trying to pull a fast one. What’s the logic behind it?

The science

According to the laws of the colour wheel, red neutralises the bluish/purple colour that causes dark circles and works to balance out your skin.colour

Right, well that makes sense. Kind of. Beauty bloggers everywhere may swear by it, but does it really work? There’s only one way to find out. I put the beauty hack to the test so you don’t have to.

No makeup. Dark circles galore. But still lookin’ pretty damn fine, if I do say so myself.

Just contemplating life whilst channelling my inner raccoon.

PS. These are the faces you make when your mum comes in and asks you what the hell you’re doing. (It’s called beauty, look it up)

Okay guys, I think I’ve done something wrong.

Why do all the beauty bloggers look flawless and I just look like I’ve been sunburnt? Oh, life is cruel and unfair.

Perhaps I used the wrong shade of lipstick? Or maybe my concealer wasn’t thick enough? I have no idea.

All I know is that all I’ve managed to do is smear lipstick around my face and although, I must admit, it is rather amusing, I kind of need to get ready and look fairly presentable.

Ultimately, I feel betrayed and lied to.

Soz beauty bloggers but I think I’ll stick to my regular old concealer and embrace the beauty of my dark circles.

I am so not cut out for this.

Have you tried the red lipstick as concealer trick? Let us know how it turned out @maximumpop

Jade Thirlwall totally nails that grey hair trend

There’s only one thing better than Zac Efron shirtless and that’s him in a dress.
