Last week we launched the MP! Bookish Awards, and asked you to vote for your favourite books in six categories.
It’s a tough vote so we’re going to give you a helping hand – by letting the nominated authors convince you why they deserve to win!
First up we have the lovely Marie Rutkoski, author of the ‘Winner’s Trilogy’, who is nominated for Fantasy/Sci-Fi of the Year for ‘The Winner’s Kiss’!
We’re so pleased that ‘Winner’s Kiss’ is up for Fantasy/Sci Fi of the year. How do you feel to have been nominated? Truly honoured!
What makes a really great fantasy YA? For me, great characters. I don’t need perfect characters (I like them far better flawed), but I want to care what happens to them. I love excellent world-building and intricate plots, of course, but this is meaningful to me in terms of how it all affects the character, or the character affects the world and plot.
Can you remember the first time you had the idea for this series? Yes. I was in the children’s play room in our old apartment building, speaking with an economist friend about auctions. She explained the economic concept of the “winner’s curse” and the idea grew from there.
What are you working on now? Two books: one for adults and another fantasy YA.
For those who are struggling with you to vote for, why should ‘Winner’s Kiss’ be their choice? Um….the intrigue? The kissing? The baby tiger? Kestrel + Arin 4ever?
Have you been swayed? VOTE NOW.
Just in case you need anymore persuading, how about a giveaway?
We have 3 sets of the trilogy and a gorgeous ‘The Winner’s Kiss’ poster up for grabs!
