5 reasons you need to get to Book It! 2015: Derek Landy, Jenny Valentine, David Almond and MORE

Got any plans for the start of October? Well, let us chase away those back-to-school blues with a super exciting, totally bookish festival you need to get to.

As part of the Cheltenham Festivals, Book It! is a children’s and YA literature festival running from the 2nd until the 11th October – giving you over a week of workshops and talks to attend. Featuring David Almond, Cressida Cowell and ‘Silence is Goldfish’ author Annabel Pitcher we are endlessly envious of anyone who gets to go.

Check out our 5 reasons why this a festival you need to go to.

1. There is a MASSIVE selection talks to go to. Whether you’re into older YA lit like David Almond’s works, or prefer younger stuff such as ‘How To Train Your Dragon’, you’ll find something you’ll love. Plus, there are a bunch of new releases you can go have a love-at-first-sight moment with, like mermaid novel ‘Lorali’, or ‘Silence is Goldfish’.

2. On top of talks, you’ll be able to join in on workshops, such as creative writing, how to draw like Nick Sharratt (illustrator for those iconic Jacqueline Wilson books) and how to vlog with real-life booktuber booksandquills.

3. You will have to purchase tickets for different talks and workshops, but there are still some FREE events, such as the fun days on Sunday 4th and 11th October with facepainting, circus skills and storytelling.

Plus, tickets for most events cost no more than your average McDonald’s meal.

4. Who doesn’t love Alice in Wonderland? Macmillan books will be hosting a 150 years celebration for Alice, inviting you to play flamingo croquet and dress up as your fave character. You might even meet the White Rabbit! A must for all you Lewis Carroll fans.

5. It’s a flippin’ book festival! Do you need anymore reason than that?
