Here at MP! Style, we love keeping up with the latest fashion bloggers and constantly find ourselves inspired by their style and passion. We spoke to Sarah from Sarah Louise Porter about her experience as a successful style blogger, and here’s what she had to say.
Blogging has become increasingly popular over the years. What made you first want to start a blog?
I started reading blogs and watching their corresponding YouTube channels years ago and was inspired. I have quite an extensive collection of clothing, shoes and bags and half of them never get to see the light of day so I thought, why not start my own blog and get some use out of all my stuff?! I haven’t looked back, I love blogging!
Can you tell us about your personal style? Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?
I really don’t know how to define my personal style. Some days, like casual days, I like edgy grunge, but other days I like to dress a bit more glamorous – casual or going out. Honestly, most days I wear oversized PJs and jumpers for chilling around the house. I’m sure all girls secretly relate!
A lot of the time I wear what I like even if it’s not ‘trendy’, like if i see something in the shops I like I’ll get it and wear it how I want. I do often take inspiration from browsing Instagram as well though, so sometimes I might see an outfit and I’ll create something with the outfit in mind but with my own spin on it.
What’s the one item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?
I don’t think I could live without my Topshop parka coat which I bought around 5 years ago. It’s faux fur lined and goes with everything. If it’s cold, I know I won’t be and it doesn’t matter where I’m going or what I’m doing, I know it’ll see me through. It might have cost a bit more but it was definitely worth it!
What spring fashion trend are you most looking forward to?
I think one of the big trends I’m looking forward to this spring is the ‘Underwear as Outerwear’ trend. It was all over the runways with slip dresses and lace trim and has already been seen worn with strappy harness type bras and slinky cami vests. I love the trend and have already embraced the harness bras for day time with low cut blouses. Dare I say I’m eager to see how far people will take this trend?!
We love pop stars here at MP! Who’s your celebrity style icon and why?
I think a big style icon for me has always been Christina Aguilera. She dresses womanly, glamorous and edgy all at the same time. She keeps it chic and classy even through use of colour and her curvy lines. She’s definitely a big style icon in my eyes. More recently though I am of course loving the Kardashian and Jenners’ style, especially Kim and Kylie. Those ladies know how to dress and I love that curvy is not only more accepted now but what young girls are aspiring to!
Finally, what advice do you have for aspiring bloggers?
Don’t be scared or nervous about posting your style out to the world, you’ll be surprised at the feedback and encouraging comments you’ll get back. Blogging can be a very rewarding thing, but don’t get hung up on followers and how much free stuff you get. If you’ve got something people like, then it’ll happen for you. Just be patient and realistic. Hard work pays off!
