MP! Style chats to Media Marmalade about the power of Pinterest, keeping it real and why you should add colour to your wardrobe

Here at MP! Style, we love keeping up with the latest fashion bloggers and constantly find ourselves inspired by their style and passion. We spoke to Mel Mould from Media Marmalade about her experience as a successful style blogger, and here’s what she had to say.

Blogging has become increasingly popular over the years. What made you first want to start a blog?

I actually started my blog back in 2011 as an outlet for my love for clothes and shopping. I started blogging daily and haven’t stopped since, I love writing, shooting imagery and coming up with creative ideas and concepts. It’s my biggest passion and I never imagined how my blog would grow and evolve. Now it’s a destination for career advice, blogging tips, style and lifestyle inspiration.

Can you tell us about your personal style? Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?

My personal style has evolved a lot and can still be quite varied dependent on my mood. In many ways it’s quite classic, feminine and preppy, but some days I love to mix things up with a much more Scandinavian, masculine, oversized styling.

Most of my inspiration comes from other bloggers (especially Scandinavian ones), magazines, the high street, but most of all Pinterest. I’m always updating my Pinterest boards and saving my favourite looks for inspiration.

What’s the one item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?

Oh this is tough. I probably have about 5 items I couldn’t be without – a classic long length coat will never fail you, I personally love an A-line skirt (suede mostly), a great fitting pair of jeans, classic pointed boots that go with everything and I personally always like to complete a look with a quality bag. My current favourite is my Chloe Hayley.

What spring fashion trend are you most looking forward to?

As much as I admire the simplicity and cleanliness of monochrome style, I can’t help but love vivid colour too. A splash of colour pop here or there. Colours accentuate your skin, they brighten your day and they really give off a positive energy. So I’m quite excited to add some colour pops to my wardrobe this spring, most likely styled with a classic neutral to ensure its wearable everyday for example a white tee with a gorgeous bright a line skirt or cropped trouser. Perfect for spring and summer. Or even with a colourful accessory, sunglasses, shoes and handbags are a really easy way to add a little colour to your look if you don’t want to go all out.

We love pop stars here at MP! Who’s your celebrity style icon and why?

I really admire the style of Sienna Miller, she’s both effortless but entirely fabulous at the same time. I love the bohemian style she rocks so well, it’s a very laid back, grungy, chic combination which I always think looks perfect on her.

Finally, what advice do you have for aspiring bloggers?

I have so much, sharing my tips and advice for blogging is one of my favourite topics to write about on my blog, I have an entire section which I started in 2014 dedicated to sharing all my tips which you can catch up on here, so if you’re looking to start a blog or wanting to push yours to the next level there’s tons of advice from my own experience there.

But really I think a great blog comes down to a few simple ingredients, passion, originality and integrity. My best advice is to be you, write and share what you’re passionate about and always stay true to yourself. These are the things that make a blog shine, but also make sure it’s still fun and enjoyable for the blogger too … And that’s key. It should be fun!
