2015 has been quite a year for pop culture including music, film, and especially television. Television has been redefined by Netflix, and their new, original content, and the list of shows to watch on our list just keeps growing.
We’ve compiled a list of the best TV shows of 2015 that you need to binge watch during Christmas break. See which one catches your eye:
- Scream Queens
From the mastermind of ‘Glee’, and ‘American Horror Story’, Ryan Murphy took over our televisions with ‘Scream Queens’ this year. Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas, Keke Palmer, and Emma Roberts are just a few of the names on the star studded cast list, and a sorority with a serial killer? Sounds good to us.
- American Horror Story: Hotel
Producer, Ryan Murphy is at it again with the 5th season of FX’s ‘American Horror Story’, but the best part is: you don’t have to watch any of the prior seasons. AHS reuses the same actors and actresses with a new, scary plot each year. This year Lady Gaga replaces Jessica Lange as the leading lady, and runs the most haunted hotel in California.
Away from the horror genre is ‘Empire’, a show about a record label CEO who gets struck with a medical illness that throws his whole world around. The show has made major buzz for their music, (the cast performed at the TCA’s) and their diversity. It’s a great show for any music fans, and is a must watch for this holiday season.
- Fear the Walking Dead
The prequel to the hit show ‘The Walking Dead’, explains how the walking dead came to be. The show is set in Los Angeles, where a strange flu begins to spread, and things start to seem quite apocalyptic. If you loved ‘The Walking Dead’, or plan to watch it, this show is for you!
- Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Our first Netflix original on the list is ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’. As crazy as this may sound, after being rescued from a cult she had been in for 15 years, Kimmy Schmidt restarts her life in New York where she meets Titus, her landlord. He shows her the ins and outs on the real world, and Kimmy navigates her way through life with him. One of the main writers is Tina Fey, so it must be good.
Next up is ‘Supergirl’, a kickbutt female version of Superman (he’s her cousin). Kara has hidden her powers since she was 12 years old, but now she is faced with the task of saving the city. Meanwhile she struggles with keeping her identity secret, and of course, juggling her love life. The show comes from the makers of DC Comics, so it obviously has all your favorite superhero action.
- Game of Thrones: Season 5
Although this show didn’t start in 2015, season 5 of ‘Game of Thrones’ has been one of the most watched shows this year. The fantasy drama has been around for almost 5 years now, and has yet to lose hype, so it’s a must-watch. Season 5 primarily mixes the 4th and 5th book in the series, and won the ‘Outstanding Drama Award’ at this year’s Emmy Awards.
- Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp
One of the strangest, but most anticipated Netflix originals this year ‘Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp’, which is a prequel to the 2001 movie about a cult. Disclaimer: this is a comedy. The show reunites the original cast that includes Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, and Amy Poehler, in addition to new cast members, including Kristen Wiig. As for the plot of the show, the campers and counselors embark on ‘the summer of their lives’ at a camp in Maine in 1981. Regardless of how crazy it sounds, it is for sure worth a watch.
- Jessica Jones
Our final Netflix original is ‘Jessica Jones’, based off of the comic book series. The story follows Jessica Jones, a retired superhero, who starts up a detective firm after her days of saving lives are over. The show does touch on serious topics, but mostly revolves around Jessica’s detective work with other people of extraordinary ability.
- Sherlock (OMG)
This last, but certainly not least, show has us counting down the days until Christmas break (or New Year’s we should say). This special episode of Sherlock brings viewers back to the Victorian Era, where we sure Sherlock and Watson in their original attire. The episode is called ‘The Abdominal Bride’, and airs on January 1st. The episode will also be available in select US and UK theatres on January 5th and 6th. The last Sherlock episode we got was January 2014, so we are wanting this RN.
