Interview: We chat to America’s Got Talent’s first ever winner Bianca Ryan.

In 2006, eleven-year-old Bianca Ryan became the first ever winner of America’s Got Talent. Almost a decade later, Bianca is back with her brand new single ‘Alice’, a recent role in movie We Are Kings, and is currently planning her first world tour. Here in our exclusive chat we speak about the new single, Care Bears and the Spice Girls.

You became successful at a very young age, when did you first realise you had musical talent?

I was a dancer my whole life. I started dancing when I was 3 years old. So I was always around music and the arts and my dad is a guitar player so I’ve always been surrounded by music. I got into singing when I was about 8 years old. I started to enjoy singing more than dancing and kept doing it and begging my parents to take me to auditions like Star Search and stuff.

Who did you grow up listening to around the house?

I listened to EVERYTHING growing up. Literally. My mom was a huge listener of country and latin music. So I was always listening to Faith Hill and Shania Twain, and I learned every spanish word of every song by Selena! My dad was always listening to Classic Rock like The Stones; then a lot of R&B and Gospel music like Whitney Houston, Jennifer Holiday, and James Brown.

Would you say those artists are your biggest musical influences?

I wouldn’t say my parents favorite artists are my biggest music influences, no, but they definitely shaped me into a very well rounded artist. It’s helped a lot with songwriting. I write music of every genre and I feel like I’m not limited as an artist which I love.

You’ve recently released your new single ‘Alice’, how would you describe it to people that haven’t heard it?

I would describe it as a moment really. I had no idea how many lives it would really touch and how many people would actually relate it it. It’s truly just a moment, I have no idea what genre to even describe it as. It’s just a story and music.

You haven’t released an album in almost ten years, with a new single out there are you planning on releasing a new album soon?

YES! 2015 is the year! A new EP is coming everyone’s way! It’s been hard and a very slow process doing this as a truly independent artist but it’s coming and it’s going to be awesome. I spent many years finding myself as a person, and just as many years finding myself as as artist.

What can we expect from it?

You can expect a lot of different sounds. It’s going to be very different from anything I’ve ever put out. It’s very mainstream and radio friendly! And it’s awesome because this EP will be the first EP where I wrote ALL of the songs on it. I think it’s important for artists to write their own music and it makes it more believable when they perform the songs because it came from their own heart.

You are best known for winning the first season of America’s Got Talent. How has your life changed in the nine years since you won?

It’s been a whirlwind. It feels like yesterday really. I still don’t believe any of that happened. I toured for the next three years after AGT all over, and then went back to high school to just try to be normal for a bit. It’s so good to finally come back into the music industry and give all of my fans what they’ve waited for for years!

What was the first thing you bought with your $1,000,000 winnings?

I actually don’t remember, haha! It was probably a Care Bear or something along those lines. I used to be obsessed!

If you could duet with any other America’s Got Talent contestant from any season, who would you pick?

This is such a hard question! I would love to do some type of puppet duet with Terry Fator, though. Design a Bianca Puppet.

Last year you starred in the independent film We Are Kings. Is acting something you’ve wanted to do for a while?

Yes! I’ve always wanted to get more into acting and a music based movie was the perfect way to do that. I hope to do an action film one day or some type of comedy, I love being silly!

Is acting something you’re planning to do more of?

Yes, it definitely is. I’ve also always wanted to produce my own show as well! I’ve been planning a couple of scripts lately.

If you were to star in your own ‘Spice World’-esque movie, what would the storyline be?

This question is so ironic, I actually reference the Spice Girls in my next single! I would probably like to make it more realistic to real life, and really show the real struggles and temptations that artists go through while trying to make it, especially if you’re a band and there’s more than one opinion flying around at all times. And then maybe do an ending like ‘The Watch’ and just have everyone turn into an alien, haha!

Finally, are there any plans for you to come to the UK anytime soon?

I would love to come over to the UK sometime this year! Let’s hope if ‘Alice’ and the next single really blow up! So make sure you all share it with all of your family and friends. I hope to get to meet so many of you from all around the world. #BiancaWorldTour2K15 Let’s do it!
