We’ve mentioned it before, but it bears repeating: Ryan Tedder is a bone fide hit maker of the highest order. Along with the likes of Max Martin and Sia, the One Republic frontman has been responsible for a slew of amazing pop tune-age over the last few years and here at MP!, we thought take a moment to guide you through some of his best moments… Ready? Ok.
Sean Paul feat. Alexis Jordan – ‘Got 2 Luv U’
Tedder is mostly know for his epic balladry (more on that later) but he’s no slouch when it comes to amazing mid tempo bangers either. Sean Paul’s ‘Got 2 Luv U’ is a prime example – a mix of dancehall and R&B with Alexis Jordan’s heavenly chorus at the forefront of it all. This is still a must for the summer BBQ playlists.
Ellie Goulding – ‘Burn’
Continuing the mid tempo banger oeuvre, Ryan was also the brains behind this mega hit for Ellie in the summer of 2013. Fun fact: This song very nearly ended up going to Leona Lewis and she even recorded a demo of it. How different things could’ve been…
Ella Henderson – ‘Ghost’
Let’s face it, there’s not many X Factor finalists who trail in at 6th place who actually go on to make a career for themselves, let alone score a best selling hit single, but 2012 finalist Ella Henderson bucked that trend big time. This was due in part to her amazing voice (obv’) and this incredible Tedder-penned beast of a song. Even five months after it’s initial release, it’s STILL hanging around the charts. Ker-ching!
Jordin Sparks – ‘Battlefield’
No one does power ballads better than Tedder, and Jordin Sparks got the mother of all power ballads with ‘Battlefield’. Built around massive drums and dramatic pianos, this is the ultimate soundtrack for the broken hearted and defiant. All together now, “YOU BETTAH GO AND GIT YO’ ARMAH!”
Demi Lovato – ‘Neon Lights’
Ryan gave us a total dance floor stormer with the third single from Demi Lovato’s latest album and we ate it up like chocolate. For any pop geeks out there, here’s the original demo of Mr. Tedder performing the song with different lyrics.
Beyoncé – ‘Halo’
We’re used to Beyoncé churning out girl power jams like ‘Girls (Run the World)’ and ‘Single Ladies’ but she can knock out a belter of a ballad when she wants to, and once again Tedder lent his genius to the proceedings. Fun fact #2: Leona Lewis nearly had this one too before Bey’ snatched it from under her! Don’t worry though, cos Ryan had another ace up his sleeve for the X Factor star…
Leona Lewis – ‘Bleeding Love’
Yep, Tedder strikes again. Fresh from winning the X Factor and in need of an amazing song to kick things off, Leona got her mitts on this modern classic as her debut single. It sold by the squillion and officially cemented Lewis’ career as a mega diva to end all mega divas. WHAT. A. SONG.
So, what have we learned so far? Well, firstly, if you want a ma-hoosive hit single, you give ol’ Ryan a call. Secondly, if you’re the recipient of these amazing songs, it’s more than likely it was offered to Leona Lewis first.
