We’re full-blown makeup junkies. Seriously, it’s getting quite bad. We’re constantly splurging on new liquid lippies and any trend that our faves in Little Mix wear we NEED to try out. Even if it means buying new makeup…
You lovely lot make us feel a little less ashamed of our secret addiction, though. Whilst our mums may not get it whatsoever, you sure do.
So, when you jokingly tweet that you’re broke and would like someone to give you free makeup ASAP, we get it – we really do.
Well surprise, beauty lovers, because the AMAZING news is you can actually get FREE makeup. Nope, we’re not kidding. We put together a selection of handy makeup hacks that will allow you to blag new products without having to spend a penny, give or take!
How brilliant is that?!
Sit back and take notes, guys and gals. Here are some things that you can do to ensure that your eyeliner (and rest of your face) is always on fleek even when money’s tight.
1. Swap and share makeup with your mates
Bear with us on this one – it’s not as gross as it sounds. Some makeup you can actually share or swap with your close friends and it’s 100% safe to do.
Unfortunately, lip products are a massive no-go as they can spread things like cold sore viruses. Equally, we wouldn’t recommend sharing eye products as they spread bacteria – pink eye isn’t a good look.
Liquid foundation and powders are okay, though. Just make sure you use your own brush or wash your friend’s one before you apply it. After all, it’s better safe than sorry. Plus it means you guys can swap or trade blushers, bronzers and highlighters. Score.
2. DIY makeup
Sure, there may be some crazy ones out there. Using crayons as eyeliner? No, thanks. But there are also some pretty useful ones. Take melting down an eyeliner pencil into liquid liner if you’ve run out of gel, for instance. It’s so handy!
It also works for skincare. There are literally hundreds of online recipes for face masks that feature ingredients that you can find in your kitchen cupboards.
So, if you wanna try our new things in the beauty world and don’t have any money, we’d seriously recommend having a look on YouTube ASAP.
3. Revamp old makeup
As well as DIYing new products, there are also Youtubers out there who are showing you how you can revamp your old makeup.
For example, you can melt down lipsticks and mix them together to come up with a whole new colour.
4. Keep your magazine samples
Bought a magazine? Keep your samples. We’re being serious. Even if it’s a mediocre product you don’t plan on buying a full-size version of, they come in handy.
Just think, how many times have you been left with a few weeks till payday without a moisturiser or foundation? Also many of them are handbag size, which means they’re great for travelling.
5. Save your empty MAC makeup bottles/pots/tubes
This is the hack that will get most of you guys’ attention. More and more brands are recycling their bottles. The biggest and most popular scheme out there at the minute is MAC’s Back To M.A.C.
Simply take six empty containers in store and they’ll give you a free lipstick of your choice in return. The best part is it can be ANY container.
6. Save your LUSH pots
Lush are also running a similar scheme. It’s called the 5 Pot Program and is as simple as it sounds. All you need to do is wash out five of Lush’s black pots, take them in store and in return you’ll get a brand new face mask.
We’ve tried it out in the past and would 100% recommend.
7. Ask beauty counters for samples
If you’re feeling incredibly cheeky, you can ask beauty counters for free samples. This works well on liquid products like foundations.
Just go up to a counter, talk to a member of staff about their latest foundations and ask for a small tester you can take home with you to try out.
Who knows maybe you’ll even enjoy the new foundation and want to buy a full size version once you’ve been paid?
8. Use vouchers
We’d also recommend paying close attention to vouchers. Often you’ll find them scattered throughout magazines, but there are also hundreds of the web. Just do a quick google search and you’ll come across plenty.
9. Online beauty outlets
So this one isn’t exactly a ‘free’ hack but it’s a useful one. Linking onto vouchers, you should also research what reward schemes and offers online beauty outlets currently have on.
Not only is their makeup typically cheaper than department stores, but often if you spent over a certain amount they’re throw in free products.
One of our fave UK sites that do this is Beauty Bay. Click the ‘Beautiful Offers’ tab at the bottom of the page and you’ll be met with an array of deals – such as a free Micro Mini Sponge and Mini Liquid Blender Cleanser when you spend more than £25 on Beauty Blender products.
