Singer, songwriter, philanthropist and all round lovely lady Avril Lavigne has penned and recorded a beautiful brand new track in aid of the Special Olympics and the story behind it’s very heartwarming.
The inspiration for the track – titled ‘Fly’ – came when Avril launched a campaign last year for her 30th birthday where her charity, The Avril Lavigne Foundation, raised funds for 30 Special Olympic athletes competing in this year’s games.
Little Miss ‘Complicated’ herself even visited a local Special Olympics Program in Shanghai to learn more about their work whilst she was on her 2014 world tour.
“This song means a lot to me personally,” Avril explains. “It is inspired by the many young people I’ve met throughout my work with my Foundation. They pursue their dreams no matter what obstacles they face.”
‘Fly’ will be featured during the Special Olympics’ first ever Unified Relay Across America which will see over 20,000 participants carry the Flame of Hope over the course of 46 days.
