Ariana Grande and Mac Miller are already one of our fave pop power couples ever. We’ve always shipped them to kingdom come and we’re so glad they’ve finally gone official. But something about the media treatment of Ariller has bothered us.
Everything seemed to go well until Seacrest abruptly started asking about her relationship with Mac, bringing up this Insta post and of the two of them.
Seacrest took this as a confirmation of the couple’s relationship, but Ari was not happy at all with that:
“If I post something, that’s what I’m willing to share at that moment. It doesn’t mean that you – Ryan Seacrest, with millions of listeners – are entitled to more information”.
People were quick to tear her down for her reaction:
Ariana was so rude to Ryan Seacrest I wanted to rip my eardrums out.

I love Ariana but that was low key rude

Skip to 07:50 in this video and see if you agree that Ari was rude.
The fact is that you have to understand Ariana’s position on the subject. Ryan and her were just talking about Ari’s amazing experience performing with Madonna when Ryan abruptly changed the topic to declare that she has “confirmed her relationship on Instagram”. She was not only blind-sighted, but Ryan was firmly putting words in her mouth.
We are used to celebrities sharing every inch of their personal lives on social media, but Ariana has never been one of these people. She has always been very guarded and protective of her relationships, and it’s not hard to understand why.
You only have to look as far as the recent Brangelina split to see that celebrity couples who are constantly in the media eye have it rough. It adds extra strains and pressures which can kill even the most stable of relationships and stop them dead even before they’ve begun. Take a look at Ari’s peers Selena and Justin. There is no denying that the constant media scrutiny contributed towards Jelena’s breakdown.
We, as normal people, take privacy for granted. If we’re having a bad day we can just stick on a baggy hoodie and shut out the world, but pop stars can never truly let their walls down. No hoodie, no matter how baggy, can lock out the constant prying of the paparazzi.
Perhaps Ari was a bit snappy, but it’s only because she has been hounded by paps and asked all the same invasive questions by interviewers for years. Wouldn’t you get a bit tired of playing nice with people who don’t extend you the same courtesy?
Ariana wasn't being rude. She just didn't feel comfortable answering the question and there's nothing wrong with that.

Ari did end up later confirming the relationship on ‘The Ellen Show’, but she was visibly reluctant and literally let Ellen do all the talking. No literally. She barely said a word.
It’s not the interviewers fault. They are just doing their job, but we should work to kill the expectation that celebs HAVE TO share every part of their lives with us. Some want to, some don’t and Ari definitely does not.
