‘The Potion Diaries’ is a fun read packed with magic and wonder. After the princess of Nova poisons herself with her own love potion, the nation is whipped into a frenzy searching for the cure – and talented alchemist Samantha Kemi might just be the girl to find it.

MP!er and book blogger Laura applied to grab a free copy of ‘The Potion Diaries’ through our Book Club and huzzah! She got one to review.

Had you heard of ‘The Potion Diaries’ before seeing it on Maximum Pop!? If so, where did you find out about it? Yes I had and I have been wanting to read it for MONTHS! I follow the publisher on their twitter account Hashtag Reads and they were showing pictures of a really cool early copy of the book, that at the time that caused me to have some serious book envy and then the final book design came out and it just made me think, I NEED this book! So yeah I may have heard of this book before…

Potion DiariesWhat’s your favourite thing about the cover? Where do I start?! Lol just one thing, the colours, they really make this book stand out, and there are some of my favourite colours on there as well :)

If you could have any of the potions used in the book, which would it be and why? The concentration potion that Sam makes, would be brilliant for studying and of course getting things done.

What did you think of the blend between fairy tale magic and the modern day? Ingenious. I am a sucker for a fairytale and by mixing it with the modern day, it gave the book that edge over the other stories I have read recently.

Got any favourite characters? Like hot love interests or talented alchemists? I felt a real affinity with Sam, could understand some of her struggles and I loved her will and determination. I also very much liked Zain, I can’t deny it, he sounded perfect.
Would you recommend ‘The Potion Diaries’ to friends? Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! I am SO excited there is a second book!
