The beauty bloggers rave about it, so I tried using aftershave balm as a primer

Ain’t it grand when you can save yourself lots of dosh on a primer, and instead use something that your boyf might have in his washbag?

Ain’t it EVEN better when tons of lovely beauty bloggers rave about it, so it makes you think… this might ACTUALLY work!

YES TAYLOR! That’s right! We’re discussing aftershave balm as a primer. And boy are we excited to try this.

Wonderful Youtuber Nikkie de Jager discovered this beauty hack when she forgot to bring her moisturiser to her boyfriend’s house, and opted to grab his Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm (try sayin’ that 9 times) as an alternative. As you do.

She realised throughout the day…. DAAAYAM, MY MAKE-UP STILL LOOKS SO GOOOOD! (or words to that effect).

After hearing this, I grabbed a bottle myself (which cost me £5.35 from Boots – utter barg) and slapped it on before putting on my full face of make-up, ready for a loooong long day.

This is what happened:

The consistency of the balm is pretty runny, and believe me when I say it has a very ‘Lynx Africa’ sort of scent. Not in a bad way, but it doesn’t have the sort of light, nivea-ey creamy dreamy scent I’m used to putting all over my face.

The science behind it is that it appaz has a high concentration of glycerine – some sort of binding agent – which helps make it a good make-up base. Just call me wowed.

It dried pretty well, and the smell wasn’t overpowering – it actually felt really nice, really cooling and almost just like a primer. It was easy as pie and felt refreshing – so far so good!

Stay Power:

Now I love a primer. I find I can really tell when I haven’t bothered putting one on, as I get to about 12pm and my face is shinier than a medallion.

Let me tell you this – I get it. I get the hype. It by far exceeded any expectations I had, and my make-up still looked pretty decent throughout the day. Of course I didn’t look like I’d just rolled out of the make-up mirror (yes I did say that) by 5pm, but blimey – IT LOOKED GOOD.

I was so shocked I felt like this:

This is the real deal. This stuff is bloody brilliant – and all for just over a fiver. My make-up looked just as good – if not better – than when I just used a regular primer, and left my skin feeling very soft, refreshed and primed.

Based on the price and the staying power, I can’t recommend this enough. The beauty bloggers have spoken – this product is bloggin’ beautiful.
