Recently we got the chance to put a few questions to Skylar, who runs the incredible bookstagram account _halfbloodhuntress. With over 15k followers and a whole host of beautiful bookish snaps, we managed to find out which ‘Throne of Glass‘ cover is her #1 book bae and discover why she started it all to begin with.
What first attracted you to bookstagram and made you begin posting bookish photos? Honestly, when I first started my bookstagram, I had no clue that it was even a thing. I was just a girl who loved to read, and one day I decided to make an Instagram account solely for posting about books I loved. Along the way I discovered more bookstagram accounts and even made some friends.
How long have you been part of the bookish corner of Instagram? Around two years. I don’t know the exact date, but I first made my account sometime in the spring/summer of 2014, but I didn’t start really using my account avidly until autumn of 2014.
Could you describe your Instagram ‘aesthetic’ in only three words? Oh, man. I don’t even know. I can try. Let’s see…Woodsy, vibrant, dark.
We know how great bookstagram is, but what is one of your fave things about it? One of my favourite things is meeting new people from all over the world who I can relate to and talk books with.
What is your favorite prop you’ve ever used in your photos? Well, I don’t use props very often, but my favourite prop I’ve used has to be the handcrafted Harry Potter Elder wand I bought while overseas in Italy.
3:50 p.m. / 07.23.2016 My first ever Harry Potter wand, obtained in Montecatini Terme, Italy on White Night. A hand crafted Elder Wand for only six euros! So of course I bought two wands 😏 I'll be featuring the other one in later photos. What are you all up to this weekend? My goal is to finish up 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' before Monday and then turn my focus to 'Name of the Wind' and 'A Court of Thorns and Roses'. Then I've got to brush up on my math a bit for the ACCUPLACER test I'll be taking next week. I've already taken the English one and I scored in their highest English class. I was extremely pleased, until my dad read the course description…just listening to him read it stresses me out 😅 Tomorrow me and my Dad are going driving and car browsing. I'm hoping to just get a new (used) one instead of waiting for my uncle to come look at the Ford…
Is there one book that’s so beautiful that you just can’t help but take a million pictures of it? Definitely the ‘Throne of Glass’ books by Sarah J. Maas. More specifically—’Empire of Storms’.
4:15 p.m. / 09.06.2016 Happy release day to Empire of Storms! I can't wait to dive into this bad boy, but sadly that'll have to wait until later. There are other books I need to read first, plus I want to reread the series before reading Empire of Storms. While I wasn't a fan of Queen of Shadows, Lauren (@fictiontea) is giving me hope for this next installment, since she said she thoroughly enjoyed it and we more or less had the same opinion of QoS. Anyways, happy release day @therealsjmaas! Have you guys received your copy yet? I was a little iffy about the cover for a while, but seeing it in person has me sold. It's 100000x more beautiful in person. Which cover is your favorite?
Overall, ultimate fave picture you’ve ever taken? I have quite a few, but I would have to say that one of my top favourites is the photo I took of ‘The Raven Cycle‘ the day the cover for ‘The Raven King’ was revealed.
11.02.2015 ‼️ WE NOW HAVE A COVER FOR THE RAVEN KING, AND IT IS GLORIOUS ‼️ This cover is so stunning, I am completely and utterly in love with it. 'The Raven King' is the last installment in Maggie Stiefvater's 'The Raven Cycle' series, and I am both nervous and excited. I haven't read Blue Lily, Lily Blue yet, but I'm going to be marathoning the series next year prior to the release date of The Raven King, which (according to Goodreads) is set to release April 26, 2016! If you haven't read any of the books in The Raven Cycle series I highly, highly, highly suggest you do! // What do you guys think of the cover? 😍 #theravenking #theravencycle #bookstagram
