To celebrate the new horror film ‘Lights Out’ hitting cinemas on the 19th August, we thought we’d put together a skin-crawling list of creepy AF moments in some of the best scary movies. They’re the sort that make us go like this…
Will we ever un-see that shower scene? Unlikely. A shadowy figure lurks behind the curtain before it is ripped open and our leading lady meets her fate to the sound of those skin crawling sound effects.
‘The Shining’ (1980)
Even if you haven’t seen this one, you’re sure to know the ‘Here’s Johnny’ axe scene. It’s a fave, featured countless times in witty internet memes.
‘The Conjuring’ (2013)
If you like waking up to the sound of a knocking that turns out to be your sister, possessed, banging her head against the wardrobe then you probs won’t find this that creepy. But we definitely needed to pay a visit to the toilet after watching this one.
‘The Woman in Black’ (2012)
Oh hey, Dan Rad, how’s it going? ‘The Woman in Black’ is filled with hella jumpy moments, not least when Arthur puts his hand to the window and BAM a woman’s screaming face appears.
‘The Strangers’ (2008)
Windows appear to be a common theme in horror films. In ‘The Strangers’, one of the leads draws back a curtain to one of the masked figures waiting on the other side. Uh, creepy or what?
We’re actually kind of uneasy about this one. Imagine popping on one of your home videos to find one in which a lawnmower runs over tied up victims. Bloody and just downright grim.
‘The Haunting in Connecticut’ (2009)
What’s better than a horror film based on true life events? Honestly, everything. This crazy sh*t freaks us the eff out. Waking up and walking straight into a corpse that that has appeared out of nowhere is definitely not what dreams are made of.
‘The Ring’ (2002)
Demonising our TVs and laptops is not ideal when we spend the majority of our time glued to the screen. Well, ‘The Ring’ will have you making sure all your devices are unplugged at night for fear a woman, experiencing a seriously bad hair day, might cruel out.
Remember ‘Lights Out’ comes out 19th August, so hit up the cinema if you dare. And tweet us @maximumpop with the scariest scenes you can think of.
