So you’ve checked out the 5 TV shows we recommended you need to watch this year, right? If not, go do that right now. If yes, that’s great news because we have another show to add to your list for 2016.
The Shannara Chronicles follows the journey of Amberle (the Elven Princess), Wil (half human, half elf) and Eretria (human raised as a Rover), who must fight, with the guidance of the last druid, Allanon, to protect the Ellcrys from dying and unleashing all the demons to the Four Lands.

Keep reading below to know 5 reasons why you need this show in your life.
POPPY DRAYTON as Amberle
Every show needs a strong, kickass female lead and Amberle is our it girl. The show opens with Amberle training to run in the Gauntlet, a customarily all-male race, as a right to determine who will become one of the seven Chosen. Naturally, she becomes one of the Chosen and already proves to the audience her strength and the ability to never give up. You wouldn’t want to run into Amberle in a dark alley. If a take-no-crap female lead isn’t enough to draw you in, keep scrolling.
AUSTIN BUTLER as Wil
You may recognise him as Sebastian from The Carrie Diaries. Enter the young, hot male lead every girl will go nuts over. Playing the half human, half elf Wil, who is the last of the bloodline of the ancient Shannara family. He is destined to help save the Four Lands and joins Amberle to stop the demons. Also, you’ll enjoy the eye candy.
THE VILLAIN aka Dagda Mor
Oh my gosh, have you seen this villain? We have never seen something this terrifying and scary since Bloody Face in American Horror Story: Asylum. Kudos to the costume and make up crew for delivering a truly horrifying villain. If you don’t like watching horror movies, we recommend you skip the Dagda Mor intro scene. Or maybe just yolo it and see what happens.
THE SPECIAL EFFECTS
For an MTV show, The Shannara Chronicles delivers truly stunning and mind-blowing special effects. We need to meet the crew and hand them a box of chocolates and lots of hugs for making the demons and the magical elf stones look so realistic, it’s just incredible.
Apart from the special effects being on point, we also have to commend the brilliant locations where The Shannara Chronicles are filmed. The beautiful landscape of New Zealand is a great place to watch the fantasy story unfold. From the captivating mountains, to the breathtaking city of Arborlon, we bow down.
We’re very impressed with The Shannara Chronicles and MTV is proving to be a real contender against the other major networks. The first three episodes have aired and you can stream the fourth on the MTV app. If you haven’t tuned in yet, what are you waiting for? Prepare to become obsessed.
