5 different types of celebrity responses to the One Direction hiatus news

Stars are just like us. When One Direction announced they’d be taking a brief hiatus next year after going nonstop for half a decade, even the famous and fabulous crumbled. However, they all approached the situation very differently. Here are the diverse types of celebrity reactions to the 1D hiatus announcement.

1. The “I’m-not-really-a-fan-my-neice/daughter/cousin/sister-mother-is” reaction

Jimmy Kimmel tried to mask his own pain by showing his audience screenshots of devastated fans’ tweets. (He also poked fun at the number of newscasters who used variations of the terrible line, “One Direction is headed in different directions.) He then texted his niece, who he said is a big fan and has all their birthdays memorized, and they had an emoji-filled conversation about her sadness.

2. The “let’s-make-it-sound-worse-than-it-really-is-for-the-sake-of-drama” reaction

Louis Walsh told the Mirror, “It’s not the end, they will give it five or six years I’d imagine and then they will get back together.” Um, Louis, they’ve told us they only need a year’s break, can you please not be such a downer? You’re one of the original people to see the potential in the boys!

3. The “tattoos-are-forever-and-my-favorite-band-should-be-too” reaction

Don’t make an appointment for laser tattoo removal yet, Ryan. Your ink may be permanent, but this hiatus surely won’t be.

4. The “I-remember-when-my-favorite-band-broke-up-but-I-still-have-no-pity-for-you” reaction

Why is it that adults who have suffered the break ups of bands like the Spice Girls and Take That seem to have no pity for the young, broken hearted One Direction fans? X Factor alumni and Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark told fans to calm down (rude), but also added, when Geri Halliwell left the Spice Girls, “I had three days off primary school!”

5. The “how-can-life-go-on” reaction

Sometimes it’s especially hard to get out of bed and go to work in the morning. The YouTube star understands your pain. How can the world continue to turn when One Direction isn’t continuing to grace the world with its music?
