Some artists just have so many good songs that they just physically can’t release everything as singles and the lovely Selena is definitely one of them. Her albums are always chock full of massive tunes and she just keeps getting better and better.
But we feel some of her unreleased tracks deserved to have the single treatment so we’re giving them the recognition they deserve. Here’s our 11 top Selena deep cuts:
1. ‘Bang Bang Bang’ (‘When the Sun Goes Down’)
This list could not be complete without this electrified disco monster of a banger aimed squarely at a former lover, could that have been Nick Jonas?
2. ‘Sober’ (‘Revival)
This would have been one of the most tragically beautiful of all Selena singles, but ‘Revival’ was so full of potential singles that this one just missed out.
3. ‘Birthday’ (‘Stars Dance’)
‘Birthday’ got Selena’s first solo album off to a roaring start and it even had a cute home made video, but sadly no single treatment.
4. ‘Me & the Rhythm’ (‘Revival’)
‘Me & the Rhythm’ was released as one of the first promo singles from ‘Revival’ and essentially whetted everyone’s appetite for the main course, but we thought this one was a pretty saucy dish on its own.
5. ‘Ghost of You’ (‘A Year Without Rain’)
This one’s been a fan fave since the beginning and is one of the best early examples of Selena slaying a ballad vocal.
6. ‘Undercover’ (‘Stars Dance’)
‘Stars Dance’ was one sweaty, sexy dance party from start to finish and this was one of the best party-starting, deep cuts.
7. ‘Kiss & Tell’ (‘Kiss & Tell’)
OMG fetus Selena! This was when she went for a bit of a rocky vibe and it’s always nice to come back to for a reminder of how far Selena has come.
8. ‘Off the Chain’ (‘A Year Without Rain’)
This was the moment when we realised that Selena was destined for dance bangers like those found on ‘Stars Dance’. That pulsing beat is so infectious.
9. ‘My Dilemma’ (‘When the Sun Goes Down’)
Fans love this one so much Selena even did a ‘My Dilemma 2.0’. This is a gem in an album full of hits. Is it about Justin? Let us know what you think in the comments box below.
10. ‘Save the Day’ (‘Stars Dance’)
That pre-chorus is pure gold and the jittery, repetitive hook has ‘Love You Like a Love Song’ written all over it.
11. ‘Like a Champion’ (‘Stars Dance’)
When Selena went all Caribbean on us. This perfect summer jam shows a completely different side of our idol.
