Recently Jade Thirlwall has opened up about her own struggles with mental health growing up and we’re starting to wonder whether more celebs being honest and open about this would make the world a better place. But is this an insane breach of privacy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
With Little Mix’s biography ‘Our World’ hitting shelves, we now know everything and anything there is to know about the girls. Including Jade’s past anorexia struggles:
“My periods stopped, and things were getting out of control, but I don’t think I really cared about what was happening to me. I felt so depressed at the time that I just wanted to waste away and disappear.” – NME
While we might not have been privy to the knowledge before, it turns out Jade has been battling this eating disorder since 13 – our hearts bleed for her! She’s doing okay now but it’s important not to downplay the issues people have had in the past when it comes to mental health.
Plus, speaking out about such a personal, stigmatised topic must have been hard for poor Jade. It isn’t easy for celebs to be 100% honest with their fans but we hope that any Mixers out there who’ve heard about Jade’s struggle now have the confidence to get the help they need too.
And since she revealed the news the support for Jade has been flooding in:
I'm pleased Jade got through anorexia and came out stronger. Now she's talking about it, it helps others to realise the danger @LittleMix

Did Jade do the right thing though? Is opening up about these kinds of things in such a public way a great step towards helping others struggling with their own mental health?
Lord knows we need to take leaps and bounds before mental health is destigmatised completely in society, but maybe celebs sharing all is a step in the right direction.
After all, how many of us have ever looked at Jade and been insanely jealous of her hair, face, body, personality, smile, life etc.?
Urm, we have. Lots of times. She’s like a flawless, hilarious, etheral being compared to us normal lot. But that’s the thing – we’re all human, really. We all struggle from time to time and we all get ill. Jade didn’t let her battle stop her from achieving her dreams and neither will we!
Here’s some other celebs who’ve bared all to help spread some epic mental health awareness. We kinda love them for it.
Tom Fletcher? BIPOLAR ROCKSTAR. Dougie Poynter?SUICIDAL ROCKSTAR. Olie Sykes?SEVERELY BULLIED ROCKSTAR. Severely hurt people are successful.

Even though we’d love to think our faves can be fully honest with us at all times, is demanding to know their mental health history okay? It could help thousands of people but ultimately everyone has a right to keep what they want to keep private.
We can’t blame people for staying quiet on these personal issues for years. After all, sometimes people receive backlash for opening up, which Zoella is all too familiar with.
It physically pains us to see peeps calling Zoe out for “faking” anxiety just because they’ve spotted her at an event or socialising in public. Mental health isn’t a complete on/off switch and just because someone isn’t having a panic attack right this second when you expect them to be doesn’t mean they aren’t, don’t, and won’t continue to struggle with anxiety.
As Zoe so dutifully points out in a recent blog post, EVERYONE has demons they’re hiding away so don’t assume things based on appearance:

Can we reasonably ask those in the limelight to get real about what’s going on in their heads, then? We’ve seen with our own two eyes that it can be pretty damaging, even if a lovely support network opens up too. It can be a lot to deal with at once.
Whilst the positives are there for fans and raising awareness, if the cost is at the star’s own mental wellbeing is it really worth it?
Let us know what your take on this is in the comments down below. Think Jade is brave for standing up and talking about her anorexia battle? Reckon we shouldn’t start expecting celebs to reveal all any time soon? We want to hear it all!
